What is 'Sneakers & STEAM'?

SNEAKERS & STEAM is the brainchild of award-winning educator, researcher and baker, Timothy McIntosh.

This unique amalgamation of Timothy's two passions: sneakers, as well as designing accessible STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math) opportunities for kids, serves as an alternative entry point to pique youth interest in STEAM.

STEAM traditionally only conjures up esoteric images of scientists in laboratories wearing goggles and lab coats - images that may not exactly resonate with the average kid.

The goal of Timothy's Sneakers and STEAM workshops is for kids of varying backgrounds, with a wide range of interests, to see STEAM as being "for them", and instill in them the confidence that excelling in STEAM subjects, or even forging a viable career in the field are not  unrealistic aspirations. Utilizing his debut graphic novel, The Company, as the focal point of the Sneakers & STEAM curriculum, Timothy illustrates the ubiquity and relevance of STEAM in everyday life: from the household gadgets we take for granted to the food we enjoy, and everything in between. And yes, that includes our favorite sneakers.
